Energy Storage — Opportunities and Partnerships

storage of the energy produced

Business opportunities and partnership models

GDS Sole Italie develops, finances, builds and operates storage projects (BESS — Battery Energy Storage Systems) to support the energy transition in Italy. Integrated with photovoltaic and agrivoltaic projects, storage represents a strategic lever for increasing grid flexibility, optimising the valorisation of renewable energy and improving the stability of the electricity system.
The Italian storage market is currently in a phase of strong expansion. The evolution of the regulatory framework, the introduction of new remuneration mechanisms and the growing demand for storage capacity are accelerating investment in the sector. In this context, GDS Sole Italie accompanies investors, landowners and industrial partners in the development of high-potential BESS projects, through flexible and sustainable collaboration models.
Thanks to an integrated approach — from permitting development to operational plant management — GDS Sole Italie contributes to the creation of innovative energy infrastructures, designed to support the growth of renewable energies and the decarbonisation of the Italian territory.

The partners GDS Sole Italie is looking for

Energy-intensive consumers: industry, logistics, agriculture, data centres

GDS Sole Italie seeks industrial partners characterised by high energy consumption and complex load profiles, particularly in the sectors of industry, logistics, agriculture and data centres.
These activities often present consumption concentrated in specific time slots, with morning or evening peaks, night-time loads or discontinuous usage patterns that can significantly affect energy costs and supply stability. Through energy storage solutions (BESS) sized to the needs of each site, GDS Sole Italie makes it possible to:
  • reduce exposure to demand peaks
  • optimise energy costs during the most critical time slots
  • improve the continuity and security of electricity supply
  • increase energy autonomy relative to the grid
GDS Sole Italie handles the entire project lifecycle: development, financing, construction and operational management of the storage plant. The industrial partner is offered a long-term energy supply contract on competitive terms (such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) or equivalent arrangements), structured according to the consumption profile, economic objectives and site-specific characteristics.

Each project is developed on the basis of a dedicated technical and energy analysis, with the objective of identifying the most efficient and competitive configuration for the client.

Developers and operators in the energy sector

GDS Sole Italie also addresses developers, operators and investors already active in the renewable energy sector, interested in co-developing or transferring energy storage projects (BESS), either in a hybrid configuration with photovoltaic and agrivoltaic plants, or in standalone mode.
The objective is to create strategic partnerships capable of accelerating the development of flexible, high-value-added energy infrastructures, in response to the growing demand for storage capacity in the Italian market.
GDS Sole Italie brings to the table:
  • technical and methodological know-how developed by the Générale du Solaire group in the realisation of hybrid systems, with numerous plants already in operation in France and Africa, and a significant portfolio of projects under development
  • integrated presence across the entire value chain: development, financing, construction and operational management of plants
  • the ability to structure flexible co-development partnerships, based on the sharing of technical expertise, financial capacity and institutional relationships
GDS Sole Italie's approach is that of a long-term industrial and strategic partner, directly involved in the development and valorisation of the project.

How GDS Sole Italie operates

The evolution of the Italian regulatory framework, together with new capacity remuneration mechanisms and flexibility services, is creating concrete opportunities for investment in the medium and long-term in the utility-scale storage sector. In this context, GDS Sole Italie is developing a strategic position in the Italian storage systems market, through a pipeline of standalone BESS projects and hybrid solutions integrated with photovoltaic and agrivoltaic plants.
Drawing on the experience built up by the Générale du Solaire group in the French market, GDS Sole Italie has consolidated expertise in the development, financing, construction and operational management of storage plants, supported by dedicated remuneration mechanisms and long-term energy contracts, including Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
GDS Sole Italie's operational model is based on the integrated management of the entire project value chain, following every phase of the plant lifecycle:
This approach guarantees a single point of contact throughout the entire project journey, from the initial study through to commissioning and plant management. It is the same approach with which GDS Sole Italie has developed its photovoltaic portfolio in Italy and which the Générale du Solaire group applies in France in the solar and energy storage sectors. An integrated model designed to ensure continuity, execution quality and a long-term vision.
