- The Senior Specialist of Operations Communications and Issues Response is part of American’s Global Engagement team, that builds and protects the airline’s brand and reputation. The Global Engagement team is a dynamic and collaborative group that helps shape the company's, actions and drives engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- In this role, you will help manage communications in support of American’s operation and in response to issues or crises that may arise. The right person for this job must be able to work in a high-pressure, high-profile environment with tight deadlines. This individual also must be able to tailor communications to different audiences in the ways that matter most to our team members, customers, media and the general public.
What you'll do

- Develop and execute communications strategies around highly volatile and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines. This includes working on real-time operational issues, crafting responses for various stakeholders and supporting the crisis response for the airline.
- Support and lead rapid response operational communications throughout the airline, including creating and developing internal and external communication plans.
- Support the department’s emergency preparedness and response efforts, including crisis drills and other mock incidents.
- Maintain important relationships with key reporters, handling media inquiries and acting as a company spokesperson.
- Develop compelling communications plans and business education campaigns to help American’s stakeholders understand the operations of the airline as well as important business decisions.
- Identify and support communications channels and processes to communicate with frontline team members as well as leadership, support staff, media, customers and the general public.
- Uphold the integrity of the Global Engagement team by developing and maintaining strong relationships with people across the company.
- Provide support and content for other company channels as needed.
- Occasionally travel to airports and other critical operational locations to support local events and media opportunities.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training
- 3 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- 5 years of relevant work experience in communications or media relations
- Experience working in corporate communications or media relations for a large, multi-national organization
- Knowledge of and/or experience in crisis preparedness and issues response

- Maintains a keen attention to detail and accuracy, even in high-pressure situations
- Is a strong team player with ability to work successfully at all levels of the organization
- Proficient with the Microsoft 365 Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
