The Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) position is responsible for performing complex accounting duties, which requires an understanding of the entire accounting process. The incumbent will provide support to the Fiscal Systems Unit (FSU) Supervisor in areas such as the maintenance and operation of the Department’s California State Accounting and Reporting System (Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) for Headquarters, State- Operated Facility and Developmental Centers. The incumbent will be the FSU lead for the FI$Cal implementation and maintenance.

This position is eligible to participate in DDS’ hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS’ guidelines.

Working Conditions

Job performed in an open-spaced partitioned office environment. Must have the ability to move about, stand, reach, stoop, or bend. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. May be required to sit for long periods of time using a keyboard, monitor and mouse. The computer will be used daily approximately 60%-70% of the time on the following software applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Word). Must be able to use various office machines: copier, scanner, fax, etc. During peak times, including year-end processing, request for leave will be limited and approved on a case-by-case basis.

Special Requirements

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be numbered in the same order as the following areas, typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than two pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the questions or submit an SOQ may not be considered.

  1. Describe your knowledge and experience of fund accounting and State’s accounting systems, specifically FI$Cal.
  2. Describe your experience of organizational, research, analytical skills, and communication skills.
  3. Describe your experience and ability to lead and meet tight deadlines.

If you are using list eligibility from an on-line exam to qualify for this position, you MUST include with your application any documentation (i.e., copy of transcript, degree, license, etc.) to verify meeting the MQ’s or you may NOT be considered for the position. Note: All foreign transcripts MUST be accompanied by a third party academic credential evaluation.

The MQs will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the MQs of the classification, the applicant may not be considered and withheld from the eligible list.
