Women’s Health of Central Virginia is growing and we want you to join our team. We are looking for a certified Physician Assistant to join our growing group of women’s health providers in Lynchburg, VA. Our Physician Assistants work side-by-side with our physicians providing patient care. With 10 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, and 1 certified midwife, Women’s Health of Central Virginia has the support you need to begin a great career in a thriving community of medical professionals.

In this position, you will be required to: obtain complete medical and physical histories on patients, perform physical examinations and record findings, collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients, order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures and provide patient education, triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation, manage medical and surgical emergencies and provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

POSITION SUMMARY

A Physician Assistant should work within the practice to provide basic patient care. As a PA, he or she should seek guidance from a physician on complex problems while handling common issues on their own.  The PA will meet with patients, perform physicals, discuss symptoms, and educate patients on their conditions.

  • Great patients and gather medical information.
  • Set up and maintain medical equipment.
  • Obtain complete medical and physical histories on patients.
  • Perform physical examinations to make correct diagnoses and record filings.
  • Work with physicians and nurses to prescribe and administer treatments.
  • Monitor patient progress and make adjustments to treatment.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures and provide patient education.
  • Communicate test results to patients and their families.
  • Instruct patients and their families about best practices at home.
  • Manage medical and post-op emergencies and provide monitoring and continuity of care between patient visits.
  • Refer patients to specialists, as needed.
  • Monitor the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies.
  • Educate patients, their partners, and family members on reproductive health preparation for parenthood, and antenatal care.
  • Teach patients with pain management techniques to prepare them for labor
  • Help patients and their partners cope with miscarriages, stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and terminations.
  • Teach new mothers how to feed their newborns.
  • Assist patients in creating suitable birth plans.
  • Provide sound advice to patients regarding diets, exercises, and medications suitable for pregnancy.
  • Round on hospital post-partum patients.
  • Discharge hospital post-partum patients.
  • Coordinate follow-up clinical visits, as needed.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:  Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies.

Experience: At least 3 years experience, preferred.

Computer Skills: Ability to efficiently operate computers. Comfortable with Microsoft Office.

Certifications & Licenses: Virginia PA License

Other Requirements: Ability to pass required background check.
